Tools Needed For An Online Business – The Top 5

Tools Needed For An Online Business – The Top 5

Starting an online business can be a very exciting and rewarding experience. However, to run a successful business online (assuming that you already have a website), there are tools needed to help you build and run your business online. Before I get into the physical tools needed for an online business, there are three things that are highly essential and beneficial to your success:

  • Mindset – Your mindset is key to being successful online (or for that matter in any area of your life). Be sure to surround yourself with positive people, develop yourself personally, and maintain a “success” mindset.
  • Education & Training – This is definitely a must. If you don’t have a mentor or a training & education platform to learn the skills needed, then running a business online can be very difficult.
  • Support – The last “must” is a support system. There is no need to go at this alone. Be sure to surround yourself with support and other like-minded individuals. This can definitely make a huge difference in your success online.

Landing/Capture Pages

Tools Needed for an Online Business - Tools to Achieve Success

The first recommended tool for an online business is a landing/capture page builder. This is a way to capture leads for your business. Leads are the lifeblood of any business. Without leads, there will be no sales, commissions, or revenue. So it’s essential that you have a way to capture your leads.

If you are not familiar with creating these types of pages – no problem. Most landing/capture page builders online has plenty of templates you can use and update for the purpose of your business.

Here are four examples of some live landing/capture pages I created using a template to get an idea:

Autoresponder

The second recommendation is an autoresponder. If you are not familiar with this, chances are you are part of one right now. Autoresponders are a great way to continually keep in contact with your leads. With autoresponders programs, you can also schedule messages out far in advance or set when you want the messages to go out. As an online business owner, you want the freedom and flexibility to do this.

If you are going on vacation next week, you can schedule any messages for next week – so you can go and enjoy your vacation without worrying about creating content. This is all done ahead of time.

Most autoresponder programs come with tracking ability built in so you can track who is opening your emails and who is actually clicking on any links you provided.

One last thing to note is that most capture/landing page builders have the ability to link to an external autoresponder, which is pretty awesome.

Tracking

Tools Needed for an Online Business - Tools to Achieve Success

As an online business owner, it’s essential you are tracking your traffic, leads, conversions and sales. You want to know which capture pages are converting the best. You want to know which page on your website is attracting more viewers. You want to know where your leads are coming from.

If you ran a campaign and you received 50 leads. Without tracking where they came from can be very detrimental. With tracking software, you are able to track which campaign a lead came in from, which landing page they entered their email from and track conversions – what is working and what is not. This is essential to any business. By knowing your stats, you will know where the best place is to focus your marketing moving forward.

Rotator

Okay, this may not be necessary for running an online business, but it definitely helpful and beneficial to your success.

What is a rotator? Basically it’s a link you create that you can advertise multiple offers by utilizing one link. Additionally, you can also “split test” capture pages on a rotator. As you run traffic or receive clicks to your capture pages, you can see through tracking which is capture page is converting the best.

By utilizing a rotator, you can literally save loads of time instead of utilizing multiple links, you can just use one and let everything rotate as traffic comes into your business. I find this tool very helpful and beneficial in my businesses.

(Example of a Rotator: My three capture/landing page examples above are actually on a rotator.  For example 1 & 2, I have three capture/landing pages links to the rotator to test which one is converting the best. And on example 3, I have 2 capture/landing pages rotating.  You can test it out by clicking on the link two-three times – a different landing page will load. Isn’t that awesome?)

Affiliate Program

Tools Needed for an Online Business - Tools to Achieve Success

As you are building your business, it’s important to ensure all of your tools being utilized has an affiliate program. Why is this important? In time, others will ask you, “What are you using to do ______ in your business?” Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to send them a link that’s coded to you? This way, it’s a win-win. The individual purchasing the tool you recommended for their business and you received a commission for that recommendation.

Some tools are just a one time fee and some are monthly. Both can be very beneficial to you financially.

I love seeing examples, so let’s use an example.

Let’s say you are utilizing a tool that offers 50% commissions per month. So let’s say, the tool costs $50 per month. Since you recommended that tool to someone and they decide to utilize this tool and pay $50 per month. That means, you earn $25 each month from that one person.

Okay, you can’t go on vacation with $25, but if that person finds value in the tool and decides to use it month after month – then that person can earn you $300 per year. And that’s just one person.

Okay, don’t like those numbers? Let’s say, 10 people asked you, “Hey, what tool are you using for your capture/landing pages” And you referred them to yours. 10 people x $25 per month = $250 per month or $3000 per year.

Not bad for just recommending a product to someone who asked, huh? This is power of affiliate programs.

By utilizing tools with no affiliate programs, you are literally throwing money down the train. And who really likes to do that?

The All Inclusive Platform

Tools Needed for an Online Business - Tools to Achieve Success

So what does it cost for all these tools?

  • Capture/Landing Page Builders can on average range from $50 – $199 per month
  • Autoresponders on average can range from $15 – $100 per month
  • Tracking Software on average can range from $20 – $75 per month

Most tracking software does include a rotator, but some of them do not. So before choosing one, ensure that it does.

So the average cost per month for these tools can ran from $85 – $374 per month. Definitely not some chump change!!

But these tools are needed in your business – so is there an all-inclusive platform that includes all of these tools?

The good news is YES!

The Conversion Pros not only comes with these tools, but they provide many others:

  • Capture/Landing Page Builder (with Templates)
  • Autoresponder
  • Tracking Software
  • URL Creator
  • Webinar Builder
  • Email/Text Message Broadcaster
  • Marketing Materials
  • Leads for your Business
  • Blogging Platform
  • Insert Tracking Pixels
  • and so much more!

I have been using The Conversion Pros for months now and have found so much value in all the tools they provide for your business. I mainly use their platform for my capture/landing pages and the tracking software. But I also utilize the other tools listed above as well. They provide so much, that I think it’s probably impossible to utilize everything they provide.

Here is a link that you can check them out for 7 days for FREE (no credit card required). I think you will love what they offer.

As aside, although The Conversion Pros does have an autoresponder, I personally like Get Response. And it can easily be linked to any of your capture/landing pages in The Conversion Pros. Get Response does offer a free 30 day trial. Here is the link to check them out and they average 20% more open/click rates than other services.

And lastly – if you are just starting out with your online business or already are running one and require that education, training and support that is beneficial to running any success online business, here is my #1 recommendation. The education, training and support are top-notch. You can check out my post, “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profit – Is it Really Possible? for more details.

  1. Hi LT,

Good post. I agree with you that mindset, education, training and support are all key to this whole make money online endeavour. This is definitely true in my case. Having the right training package in place with mentoring and accountability always helps to spur that massive action we all need to take.

Also, I found the landing page examples to be really useful. I got a good few pointers and ideas from them. Thanks for sharing that. I’m going to implement your methods and hopefully increase my number of subscribers. The images you use for these are crisp, clear and impressive. Did you purchase stock images for those, or did you use royalty free?

On the subject of autoresponders, I personally use MailChimp, although I haven’t had it long. I use to have a GetResponse and before that Aweber. The MailChimp UI looks really user-friendly to me. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for putting this stuff out there,

    Robert.

    • Hello Robert – thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to send a comment. Always great to hear from my readers. I am glad that you see value in mindset, education, training and support before anything else comes into place with an online business. Glad you found the landing pages examples clear and concise. The images used were all part of free images that we can choose with building these pages (they come with the package). They have a lot to choose from, so you can get very creative.

I have never used MailChimp, but I do love their logo. I think it’s cute! I have heard good things about MailChimp. I believe Aweber and MailChimp are the two that I have not tried. Get Response was cheaper than Aweber and looked a lot more user friendly. Good luck with MailChimp.

All the best to you and feel free to stop by anytime. 🙂 Blessings!

  2. Love your points about what tools are needed for an online business. I’ve never heard of ConversionPros or GetResponse. I like the sound of both and will definitely look into them.

I can tell you know your stuff when it comes to building an online business. Most people I see have no clue how much work, time, practice and patience it takes. I have seen few people mention how a good support system is crucial to business.

I think what most people may not realize is that success in business can be brought about rather quickly, it’s just that most people like me have a full time job and schedule free time to work on business. Thanks for this very informative post!

    • Yes, Conversion Pros and Get Response are both my top pics when it comes to online tools. It does take time, practice and patience – but its definitely all very worth it. Thank you Jacob for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. All the best to you and feel free to stop by anytime! 🙂

  3. Thanks for writing this article. I am fairly new to the online business world ( about 4 months in) I am still learning lots. I like the idea of a landing page and I like your examples. I need to look into this more. I am going to bookmark your site so I can take some time and look around. Thanks again!

    • Hello Angela – Thanks so much for stopping by to visit my website and taking the time to send through a comment. Glad you found some possible ideas that you can incorporate into your business. Let me know if you have any questions. Blessings! 🙂

  4. Hello there LT, very great post about what it takes to build an online business. I can definitely attest to the support system one. My family literally hates and despises anyone who tries to create wealth online. So essentially, I am going at it by myself and the community at WA. And I’m also very impressed with the depth and richness of your content and it seems rather useful and applicable. I’ll definitely check it out. I must ask you a question, not particularly related to this post but of another wealth concept. Have you ever heard of an entrepreneur named Dan Lok and his concept “The Wealth Triangle?” Apparently, he says that one must acquire a “high income skill” and generate at least $10,000 per month with that skill before starting a scalable business. I was wondering if you or anyone that you know has experience with this concept and can attest to evidence of a job market stemming from Dan Lok’s concept. I’d definitely appreciate an answer and great article.

    • Hello Evan – Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my site and sending through a comment. Very much appreciated. I am very happy to hear you that you enjoyed my post. There are many who are in your situation where their family or friends may not approve of them creating wealth online. This is why a great support system in your business is so very important. Of course having family and friends to support you can be a wonderful thing, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I am glad to hear that you have a great support system in your business.

To answer your question, I have not heard of Dan Lok or of his concept of “The Wealth Triangle”. Sounds very interesting. I know some successful entrepreneurs out there may try to make you believe that their way is the best or only way. But what I DO know is that there are many roads to success. You must follow the one that best resonates with you. Follow your heart and it will lead you your desired success.

      Blessings to you! 🙂

  5. This is a helpful and well put together article. Out of 5 tips I have only heard of 2of them. As I continue to grow my online business I will figure out ways to implement these tools into my websites.

    • Hello Justin – thank you so much for taking the time to visit my site and send through a comment. Much appreciated. I am very pleased to hear that you found these tools helpful. Wishing you much success in your business. Feel free to stop by any time. 🙂

  6. You seem to have a great system, and I’m so happy I came upon your site, because right now I don’t have an autoresponder of any kind, and I know I’m missing out on a lot of potential income. You’ve given me some great ideas, and I copied your affiliate links so that when I’m ready to begin that aspect of my business, you’ll get the credit since you introduced me to these tools.

I really appreciate your entire website. It’s awesome. Thanks!

  7. Hi, great post!
Even though I am 18 months into blogging, I started off as such a beginner in all things techie that I still don’t have a landing page or an autoresponder. I have just been concentrating on getting traffic to my website, but I know it is soon the time when I will need to sort these things out.

I like the look of ConversionPros as it told everything into one and it’s not that expensive either. I just have a question, does a landing page come up when somebody actually looks for your website by name? Or does it just come up every time somebody comes to your website through keywords? I’m still a bit confused by it all. Thanks

    • Thank you Stefanie for stopping by my site and taking the time to send through a comment. Congratulations to you on 18 months of blogging! That’s wonderful and quite the accomplishment. Be sure to celebrate this! Yes, Conversion Pros has everything in one shop and for only $50 per month is amazing in my book. Capture/Landing pages can be used when someone clicks on a banner or something on your site and they enter their email address, thus “capturing the email” where you can have linked to an autoresponder. Capture/Landing Pages are also great when “running traffic” to your offer (ie…Solo Ads, PPC, etc). It literally can be used for many things. They don’t come up normally though through key words. Keywords are best used to bring visitors to your site. You can also check out my “Top Tools for Success“, where you may find some other tools, tricks and tips. Wishing you much success in your business and feel free to stop by anytime. 🙂

  8. I agree completely about mindset. I think a lot of peoples worst enemy is themselves. Meaning, they will try affiliate marketing for 5-9 months and not make a lot of money. They then quit not knowing that it takes sometimes up to a year or more to start making some decent money with affiliate marketing.I think persistence is another key ingredient to succeeding with an online business. You have to write down daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals. I have been doing this for several years and always need to work towards a goal. It’s good to join affiliate programs that actually communicate with their affiliates. Nothing is worse than signing up for an affiliate program that could care less if you exist or not. When you start making more money in affiliate programs ask for a commission increase. I have done this several times in tons of different niches over the years.

    • Thank you Garen for stopping by and sharing your insights. You make a great point, sometimes our worst enemy is ourselves. Persistence is definitely another key ingredient. Wishing you much continued success with your business. Blessings. 🙂

  9. Yes, you will definitely need those three tools in order to start an online business. May I add another one: hard work and dedication. Without this element you will not become successful. Your info on landing pages is noted with interest and I am going to make this to use. I have personally not yet used an autoresponder, but I will be using one in the near future. Thank you for the reminders in your article.

    • Thanks Jerry for stopping and commenting! Yes, dedication is definitely key and part of the mindset. You are welcome for the info and hope it helped. Let me know if you have any questions. Blessings! 🙂

  10. I have used autoresponders and rotators in the past. I found that rotators were awesome when you are marketing paid traffic also because you can see which page designs get more click throughs and save you advertising costs. As for autoresponders,

I also like GetResponse. It is so easy to setup and I think its crucial to any business since it automates the email process and manages lists with ease.

    • Hello Eric – thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Totally agree, Get Response is definite my #1 choice for an autoresponder. All the best to you in your business. Blessings 🙂

  11. Thanks for sharing such a quality review, I was happy I came across this article, from reading this post i understand most times that some of the most important tools for starting an online business isn’t just really owning a website and generating loads of traffic, it’s about having the right mindset and massive support from people willing to push you up to greater heights. I must say I really love this post, Great job!

    • Hello Seun – Thanks so much stopping by and commenting. So very happy to hear you enjoyed this post. And you said it best…having the right mindset and support is definitely the best foundation to have before implementing any online tools. All the best to you. Blessings 🙂

  12. Couldn’t agree with you more on the autoresponder part LT,

When I started my site, the first thing I was looking into was the autoresponder because I wanted to catch as many emails as I can but then I realised being a new website, it’ll take a few months for the traffic to finally come pouring in so I was paying the first few months for nothing as I only got a few subscribers a month company to today which I get usually around 300 per month.

Would you advise beginners to start getting an autoresponder as early as possible, or should they focus on growing traffic first before deciding to get those emails?

    • Hello Riaz – Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Congratulations on your new journey to online business and affiliate marketing! Super excited for you. As a beginner, I would probably focus first on your website and growing traffic. When you are ready to incorporate an autoresponder, Get Response does offer a 30 day free trial and only $15 per month for your first 1000 subscribers. I find them very reasonably priced and every easy to use.

  13. Thanks for making this informative article. I’m into affiliate marketing with the help of WA too and I think it will help lots to have The Conversion Pro. Especially my market focus on electric pressure cookers, I need to update my email readers about the newest models. I’m also thinking about making another website that just blogs about the latest action movies. Would you say I still need a auto responder for this?

    • Hello Shelly – thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Very glad to hear that found my article informative. As for an autoresponder, I would say for any business, an autoresponder would be needed. I recommend Get Response or The Conversion Pros

Once you capture your leads (either from your website or a landing page), you want an avenue to be able to communicate with your readers. If someone reads your blog post and leaves your site…..you may never reach that person again. However if they subscribe to your website and you follow up with them….that will keep them engaged and provide the opportunity for them to revisit your website. All the best to you with your business. Blessings. 🙂

  14. Hi! I’m starting with affiliate marketing. And I have been reading a lot recently. I’m getting acquainted with SEO, keyword tools and writing content.

I found you post very useful and I have been learning about the things you mention here. I have been recommended to have an auto responder. If I don’t use email marketing I’m leaving cash on the counter.

To track what happens on my site I have been advised to use tools such as SEMrush or Moz. But others say that just using Google Analytics, that is free, is just fine.

I had never heard about Rotators. But I really think it’s a cool idea. I checked clicking your link more than once: Awesome! What platform could you recommend to get a Rotator?

    • Hello Henry – sounds like you are definitely on the right track and so glad my post was very helpful for you. I believe Click Magic has a rotator. However, Click Magic is used just for tracking. For my tracking, I use Conversion Pros since they offer so much more than just that. I get more bang for my buck through The Conversion Pros. Hope that helps! Blessings to you in your business and thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  15. I am new to online business.  I agree with you that mindset, education, training and support are so important to get started and get moving.  I have a website but missing the landing page and autoresponder. I have to look into The Conversion Pro that you recommend. Do you find this program easy to use especially for a newbie like me?Thank you for sharing very helpful information.

    • Thanks so much Christine for stopping by and commenting. And Congratulations to you on your new online business. It’s a wonderful thing that you see the value in mindset, training and support. It’s so vital to any success online. The Conversion Pros is really easy to use. They have videos for everything if you have questions on how to use something. As with anything, it may seem a bit overwhelming at first because they offer SO much, but just choose what you need and require for your business and start there. All the best to you with your business and let me know if I can be of further assistance. 🙂
